Recently I’ve been feeling stuck in a rut, and once I get into a rut, it’s extremely hard for me to get out of one. This isn’t necessarily a rut where nothing is going right, but it’s more of an emotional rut. I’d often feel lethargic waking up, and generally unmotivated. So, while being completely uninspired and unmotivated I skyped with my ever-optimistic and beautiful friend from Germany. She is the one I always go to, when I have some sort of drama going on, just need to vent, or need someone to problem-solve with. She’s the absolute best listener, wise beyond her years, and gives the BEST advice!
During our long 2 hour conversation, she told me that she was doing something that really helped her with her self-care. She shared with me that she had started making small monthly goals of experiences, tiny adventures, and much more that she would tick off during the month. I was so inspired by that, that I decided to adopt the same principle! And let me tell you, it works!
Whenever I have lofty goals, I tend to have an extremely full calendar, that overwhelms me when I just look at it. However right when I’m working hard and getting overwhelmed, is usually when I forget all about taking care of myself and taking time to breathe. Making these small monthly goals really helps keeping the focus on a balanced life, and also ticking off those small bucket list experiences you’ve always wanted to do, but never make the time for. I’m talking going to the farmer’s market, going to the indie movie theatre, trying out a lavender latte, and all the other things that are totally doable on an everyday basis, but we just push aside due to everything else going on.
Here are my goals for July:
Cook with friend(s)
Have a picnic
Go to a soulcycle class
Play board games
Paint nails
Re-organize desk/office area
Go rock-climbing
Go to a meet-up
Meet w/new friend(s)
Try new make-up or hair
To me it’s not necessarily about getting ALL of these things accomplished in July! If I don’t get one thing done in July, and it’s still relevant, I’ll just repeat it for August. However my goal is to try to get as many of these new experiences into my daily life, so I get out of my rut, expose myself to new experiences, and gather new knowledge.
I’d love to know what your goals for July are!
Love,
Maxi
