Hello everyone!
Let me tell you, being low-sugar is NOT easy for me. However, I do feel like it’s helped me a lot. I’ve had clearer skin, better digestion, no sugar crashes, and less cravings. Every once in a while I’ll give in to temptation and say to heck with it and have a scoop of ice cream but the effects are almost immediate – the sugar craving monster strikes again and what was one scoop of ice cream turns into a whole pint consumed! I never thought I’d be the one to say that watching my sugar intake would be my thing but it has become a new part of my everyday life. Of course this means I’ve been on a hunt for healthier versions of treats, and found one that is SO good that it’s hard to believe how good it is for you!
One of my newest friends shared this recipe with me, and honestly I’m in awe of her overall. She has glowing skin, bouncy curls, positive radiating energy and is in fantastic shape! One thing she focuses on besides sticking to low-sugar foods, is adding in superfoods. And so started my love affair with superfoods! Pretty much immediately after that conversation I ran to our nearest Home Goods to buy whatever superfoods they had and I was lucky! I was able to find cacao nibs, cacao powder, matcha powder, maca powder, and so much more! So in the past week or two I’ve been experimenting with smoothies, snacks and treats all including superfoods and being low-glycemic or low-sugar.
This superfood protein bite recipe is honestly so good, it’s hard to imagine that there’s hardly any sweetener in it at all! It’s only date-sweetened and if I had to compare it to anything, I’d say it tastes like a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie. Sounds too good to be true? Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
Total bonus – it’s full of protein and good for you amino acids like Leucine that keep you close to your fitness goals!
Well, I’m off to munch on one of these and then head off to the gym!
Love,
Maxi

Low-Sugar Superfood Protein Bites
Recipe by Dana Degan
Ingredients:
- 2 scoops Shaklee Chocolate Build Protein
- 1 scoop Shaklee Plain and Simple Protein
- 1 cup gluten-free old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/3 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1/3 cup raw shelled hemp seeds
- 1/3 cup raw cacao nibs
- 4-5 pitted dates
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup natural almond butter
- 4 tbsp. unsweetened almond milk
Directions:
Add all ingredients into a food processor and whizz away until it’s sticky and well-mixed. Warning: you won’t be able to roll these into balls like normal protein bites. What I did is I used a tablespoon and pressed the mixture into the spoon hollow and then just removed the pressed spoon-shape dough and placed that onto a plate. Otherwise just press them into a ball! Freeze, if desired, or enjoy right away!
Makes approx. 18 protein bites
