When I was younger, my mom would always be baking or cooking something. Most of my fondest childhood memories are of my mom’s kitchen creations or being able to help out with something she was fixing. Frequently my mom would fix this chocolate zucchini bread/cake that was out of this world. You couldn’t tell there was any sort of greens in it, and it still had the taste of chocolate-y goodness.
Please Don’t Give My Brother THIS Advice
Living with someone who has special needs, you tend to focus on establishing certain skills. You try to grow a foundation of skills that hopefully can be used at some point in the future to gain independence.
However something that has recently gotten in the way of that for my family is when others offer their life advice to my brother, completely contradicting whatever we’re trying to teach him. They always mean well, and it’s never advice that’s terrible. It’s simply not advice that is particularly helpful or relevant to my brother or any other special needs child.
Green Oat & Banana Muffins
Green doesn’t sound exactly like yummy or delicious, does it? Well in this case, one does not negate the other. Surprise! A friend of mine posted this recipe, and I simply HAD to try it out! What I love about this recipe is that it contains the equivalent of 1 cup of greens, tons of fiber, protein, and VERY little sugar. It’s perfect for school (whether you’re in college or fixing a lunch box for a little one), work, or simply as an easy breakfast option. Delicious served with a cup of coffee or tea, what better way to start a day or even take a break?
Green Apple Ginger Smoothie
It’s here! Shaklee has come up with a new product that I’ve been itching for for a while! I’m very much into superfood powders whether we’re talking about spirulina, chlorella, maca, lucuma, the list goes on. I’m so excited about their new product – the Organic Greens Booster! It’s a combination of kale, spinach and broccoli in a powdered form which makes it extremely convenient to add greens to anything you can think of! I’ve had to test a few recipes out to see what tasted too “green” (I will never become a person who’s able to drink a purely veggie juice), but I’m definitely not complaining!
Basic Protein Mug Cake Recipe
Hello again!
Since the second week of December, my family and I have been on a Candida cleanse, and it hasn’t exactly been a walk in the park. As unglamorous as it sounds, it’s not on my list of fun to not eat fruit or anything that can be converted into sugar. Every Candida diet is different, but the one we follow allows for us to still have our smoothies and protein powder (thank goodness!). I don’t know if I could’ve survived doing it for this long without at least my daily smoothies!
15 Resolutions for Better Skin in 2018
One thing I think that many of us think about is the appearance and health of our skin. I know I do! I’ve already discussed my acne-prone and super sensitive skin in a previous blog post, but regardless of having a better grip on my skin, there are several habits I want to incorporate into my life this year that’ll make a big difference with my skin health!
What’s in My Purse: Winter Edition
I tell you, my purse can become a super scary place at times. After a few months so much stuff piles up in there, that it becomes exercise lugging it around. So at some point I do have to empty it, sort out through all of the junk, and put only the bare necessities back in; of course until the whole process has to be repeated! (Usually this point in time happens when I’m lugging grocery bags, my purse, and something else and realize it’s not happening.) Regardless of how much I take out though, there are certain things that always stay in there, besides the usual staples (phone, house keys, and wallet).
DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Hello again!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying this time right before New Years! I know I had a wonderful and simple Christmas with lots of relaxation, spending time with family and cooking of course. Now that at least Christmas is over, I’m definitely still loving all of the winter seasonal scents, and peppermint is my fave for the winter! So because of that and because my focus for 2018 is self-care, I wanted to share a VERY quick and easy DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub recipe I guess, that’s perfect for the winter time.
Mocha Protein Smoothie
In Germany it’s not unusual to have several coffee or tea breaks in a week. This is the time when you sit with your family in the afternoon, to take a break from whatever you’ve been working on, and simply enjoy the pleasures of company combined with something sweet to eat and a cup of coffee (or tea). I honestly miss those times, especially when I haven’t been back to Germany in forever! It’s been a few years since I’ve visited, so I’m definitely feeling a bit nostalgic.
Healthy Holiday Smoothie: Peppermint Chocolate Smoothie
Caramel, eggnog, cinnamon, roasted chestnuts and of course peppermint or candy canes are all part of the seasonal holiday flavors that make up this time of year! And it just wouldn’t be the same without them! Whenever it’s around Christmas time, I like to fix a healthy chocolate peppermint smoothie, so I figured I’d write up the recipe (with a bunch of different variations) for you guys!
